Step 5: Life Categories & Priorities

This step unfolds in two intentional phases:

  1. Identify and prioritize your Life Categories

  2. Create meaningful Sub-Categories for each priority

Defining Your Life Categories

Life Categories represent the areas of your life where you consistently invest time, energy, and/or money. These are the domains in which you are choosing to create success, balance, and mastery.

Some categories require daily attention, while others may be addressed weekly, monthly, or even yearly. Regardless of how often they show up in your life, it is important to set the intention to be consciously successful in each one.

Begin by listing your Life Categories in no particular order. At this stage, simply allow everything that feels relevant to come forward.

Prioritizing What Matters Most

Once your Life Categories are listed, begin prioritizing them by asking yourself:

  • What is most important?

  • Which categories form the foundation for the others?

For example:

  • Could you maintain a successful career if your physical health were compromised?

  • Could you fully support your family or show up for your children if your finances were unstable?

The categories higher on your list support and stabilize the categories below them. Priority creates strength, alignment, and sustainability.

Guiding Principles for Setting Priorities

As you determine your priority order, keep these principles in mind:

  1. Invest in yourself first
You are your highest priority. Everything else flows from your well-being.

  2. Seek the highest
“Seek first the Kingdom, and all things shall be added unto you.”
Align with purpose, values, and higher meaning before focusing on outcomes.

  3. Become a strong pillar
Build your own stability and success rather than relying on others. From strength, you are then able to support and uplift those around you.

Based on years of personal refinement and experience guiding others, there is a healthy and sustainable priority structure that supports long-term success. Use this as a reference, not a rule—your list must ultimately reflect your truth.

Creating Sub-Categories (From Awareness to Action)

Clarity alone is not enough. Awareness of your priorities must be followed by intentional action.

Under each Life Category, write down the specific areas, habits, or responsibilities required to be successful in that domain. These become your Sub-Categories.

For example, identifying physical health as a priority is only the first step. True success in this category might require attention to:

  • Nutrition

  • Exercise

  • Rest and recovery

Once your Sub-Categories are defined, you are empowered to set clear, aligned goals for each Life Category and each Sub-Category. This structure creates a solid foundation for everything that follows.

Feel free to adapt, copy, or personalize this framework in any way that feels aligned for you. When you are ready, you will organize your final version into your system so it can support your goals and guide your progress moving forward.
